TINY TALK
Safe Hands Day Nursery are pleased to be the accredited nursery for Tiny Talk U.K the baby sign language programme. All staff working in the Baby Unit are trained to use baby signing by Tiny Talk, the leading baby signing organisation.
Baby signing can give your baby a developmental head start and helps them to learn to communicate before they can talk.
At Safe Hands Day Nursery we aim to work closely with all parents/carers and mirror home routines as much as possible.
What is baby signing? How will this benefit my child?
Baby signing is using simple signs and gestures with babies in order to help them to comunicate before they can talk.
Research has shown that using signs can help develop your baby's language skills. Babies taught baby signs often learn to speak sooner and have richer vocabularies than non-signing babies. Baby signs can also alleviate a baby's frustration and avoids the need for the baby to be totally dependent on pointing or crying to communicate their needs. Using signs will also help to boost your baby's self esteem and will enrich interations between your child and their carer.
Using baby signs at home and the nursery
The team at Safe Hands Day Nursery have learnt a range of everyday signs to use with pre-verbal children who attend the Nursery on a day-to-day basis, helping our child to communicate their needs to yourselves and the nursery team. The success of these new communication skills greatly depends upon the successful partnership between nursery and home.
There is a range of resources available to advise parents who wish to begin using baby signs at home. These can be ordered through the Nursery.
